Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Update Coming This October, as Ruby and Sapphire Speculation Swirls

Nintendo Switch versions of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen will receive Pokémon Home support this October, enabling players to transfer their Pokémon to the franchise’s cloud-based storage service and across other compatible Pokémon games. The update was officially confirmed by Nintendo and arrives nearly a year after these Gen 1 remakes launched as part of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary celebrations on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 for $19.99 each.

As an incentive for players to establish the Home connection, anyone who has completed their Pokédex will receive the Mythical Pokémon Celebi as a gift. The reward detection system will automatically register any Pokémon caught in the games without requiring players to transfer each species individually, streamlining the process for completionists.

Players should note that Pokémon transferred from FireRed and LeafGreen to other games cannot be returned to their original copies, following the same restriction implemented in other recent Pokémon releases like Legends: Z-A.

The announcement has fueled speculation among the gaming community about potential upcoming remakes of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, though no official announcements have been made regarding those titles.
