Nightdive’s System Shock remake is coming to VR
Nightdive Studios is bringing System Shock to virtual reality through a collaboration with Flat2VR Studios. The VR adaptation is being developed as a straight translation of the original game rather than a spin-off experience, maintaining the core narrative and gameplay of the acclaimed cyberpunk immersive sim.
This announcement follows the success of Nightdive’s 2023 System Shock remake, which received an 80% review score and was named Best Remake of 2023 by PC Gamer. The original System Shock remains a landmark title in gaming history, and this VR translation aims to bring the hacking and exploration gameplay to virtual reality for the first time.
The game retains the classic story setup: players are caught hacking into TriOptimum Corporation, accept a deal from executive Edward Diego, and six months later find themselves aboard the besieged Citadel Station. The VR version will bring this iconic cyberpunk setting to life with immersive 3D exploration and puzzle-solving mechanics familiar to fans of the franchise.
