Final Fantasy’s Biggest Competition Officially Returns In 2026
Bandai Namco is continuing its “Tales Remaster Project” with the October 16 release of Tales of Eternia Remastered across consoles and Steam. The announcement marks the fourth game in the remaster initiative, following recent revivals of Tales of Graces f, Tales of Xillia, and Tales of Berseria. The project was unveiled as part of the Tales RPG series’ 30th anniversary celebration last year.
Tales of Eternia Remastered revives a 2000 PlayStation game that has been largely overlooked in the West. When originally released internationally in 2001, the game was rebranded as Tales of Destiny 2 despite not being a direct sequel—a marketing strategy chosen because it was only the second Tales game to reach overseas audiences at the time. The rebranding represents an interesting chapter in the franchise’s localization history, highlighting how Japanese publishers adapted titles for Western markets to capitalize on existing brand recognition.
The remaster initiative reflects Bandai Namco’s commitment to preserving and revitalizing the Tales series for modern audiences. By updating classic entries alongside continued new releases, the publisher is positioning Tales as a significant competitor in the JRPG space.
