25 Years of Mafia Video Games: An Oral History

The Mafia franchise is celebrating 25 years since its debut in 2002. The series, originally developed by Illusion Softworks, has become a major franchise for publisher 2K Games. Despite experiencing various ups and downs throughout its lifespan, the series remains actively developed and supported by the publisher.

To commemorate this milestone, 2K released the Mafia: The Omertà Collection on August 14, 2026. This comprehensive compilation includes definitive editions of all mainline entries: Mafia: The Old Country Definitive Edition, Mafia: Definitive Edition, Mafia 2: Definitive Edition, and Mafia 3: Definitive Edition. The release consolidates the franchise’s history in one package, making it accessible to both longtime fans and newcomers interested in experiencing the series’ evolution.

Additionally, 2K provided a free performance update for Mafia: Definitive Edition, bringing 60 frames-per-second support to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game, enhancing the experience on current-generation consoles.
