Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls looks to have sold almost half a million copies in a week
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls has achieved strong initial sales, moving approximately 485,000 copies in its first week across PlayStation 5 and Steam, according to market analysis firm Alinea Analytics. The fighting game generated $33 million in revenue during this period.
The sales breakdown reveals significant platform disparity, with PlayStation 5 accounting for 74% of sales while Steam represented the remaining 26%. This distribution reflects the traditional console dominance in the fighting game genre, though technical issues at launch substantially impacted the PC version’s performance.
Multiple problems plagued the Steam release, including performance issues, bugs, and intrusive digital rights management alongside absent Linux support. These factors resulted in mixed user reception on Steam, with only 48% of PC players leaving positive reviews.
Alinea Analytics head Rhys Elliott speculated that the problematic PC launch likely suppressed sales significantly. Elliott suggested that with a more stable Steam release, Marvel Tōkon could have potentially reached one million copies sold in its first week, nearly doubling the actual figure. The sales figures have reignited ongoing discussions within gaming communities about what constitutes commercial success in the fighting game sector.
