Pokémon Bank Shutdown Announced For February 2027

The Pokémon Company announced that Pokémon Bank will be discontinued on February 26, 2027. Originally launched worldwide in 2014 as a Nintendo 3DS application, Pokémon Bank served as a cloud storage solution allowing players to store up to 3,000 Pokémon, including creatures from the franchise’s earliest titles.

The shutdown marks a significant milestone for the long-running series, as the service functioned as a bridge between older Pokémon games and newer titles. The announcement, made via the company’s Japanese website, provides players with several months to prepare for the discontinuation.

Pokémon Bank’s successor, Pokémon Home, is already available on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, and will continue to serve as the primary storage and transfer service for Pokémon gameplay. Players using Pokémon Bank are expected to migrate their stored creatures to Pokémon Home or transfer them back to their games before the February 2027 deadline.

The discontinuation reflects the franchise’s migration away from Nintendo 3DS-era services toward newer platforms, though it raises important questions about digital game preservation and long-term access to legacy Pokémon stored within the service.
