Nintendo announces Pokémon Pokopia has sold over 5m copies, meaning that roughly one in four Switch 2 users now owns the game

Pokémon Pokopia has achieved significant commercial success with over 5 million units sold globally within just over four months of its March 2026 release, encompassing both physical and digital editions.

The milestone is particularly impressive when contextualized against Nintendo’s Switch 2 install base. With approximately 23.68 million Switch 2 units sold, Pokémon Pokopia’s sales represent roughly 21% of the console’s active userbase—approximately one in five players. This performance establishes it as the second-best-selling Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, trailing only Mario Kart World, though that title benefits from being a launch title bundled with the console.

The game’s commercial performance aligns with its critical reception. On Metacritic, Pokémon Pokopia boasts an impressive 89 from critics and 8.7 from players. OpenCritic reports a 97% critic recommendation rate with a perfect player rating. Reviewers have described it as a charming life simulation experience.

Pokémon Pokopia serves as Nintendo’s flagship 2026 release, with sequels Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves scheduled for 2027. The game’s rapid sales growth suggests strong momentum heading into the console’s second year and positions the Pokémon franchise as a major driver of Switch 2 adoption.
