Project Revenant, a Unique Precision-Aiming 2D Sidescroller, Announces Public Playtest

Mayfly, a Korea-based game developer, has announced Project Revenant, a 2D sidescrolling action game set to launch on PC. The title distinguishes itself through an innovative precision-aiming combat system that fundamentally reimagines how players approach traditional action gameplay.

The defining feature is the “Precision Aiming” mechanic, which requires players to use their mouse to target enemies with accuracy. Unlike conventional action games where players can spray bullets indiscriminately, only enemies positioned directly under the player’s cursor will take damage. This core design philosophy demands strategic thinking and careful observation of enemy positions and attack patterns before striking. The system extends to environmental destructibles, with the developer mentioning the ability to shoot down objects like chandeliers.

The headshot mechanic serves as a critical skill-reward element, allowing players to eliminate enemies instantly with a precisely aimed shot to their heads. This encourages mastery of the aiming system over button-mashing approaches.

Mayfly has released a new promotional trailer alongside nearly two dozen gameplay screenshots demonstrating the precision-aiming system in action. The developer has announced a public playtest, giving players the opportunity to experience the unique combat mechanics firsthand before the full release. The announcement emphasizes that survival in Project Revenant depends on mastering accuracy rather than relying on continuous fire.
