Rideshare Stimulator Outlines AI Usage After Contentious Exchange With Ex-Writer
Saber Interactive has disclosed its use of generative AI in Rideshare Stimulator following public criticism from the game’s former lead writer. Stella Sacco, who worked as lead writer from July 2023 to July 2024, claimed on social media that she had been replaced by ChatGPT during development. Saber CEO Matthew Karch denied the allegation, stating he had never spoken to Sacco and that the company had always planned to disclose its AI usage.
After the contentious exchange, Saber updated the game’s Steam page with details about its generative AI implementation. According to the disclosure, the game uses AI for voice generation, localization, and procedurally generated passenger missions. The company also confirmed that AI is used for in-game music generation. Players have the option to skip AI-generated content and engage only with human-written narrative elements.
Rideshare Stimulator is a gig-economy simulation game that casts players as a driver picking up passengers and transporting them to their destinations. In defending the company’s approach, CEO Matthew Karch stated that “AI can and should help shape gamer experiences,” characterizing the decision to use generative technology as an industry-wide necessity. The public dispute marked a notable moment in the ongoing discussion about AI’s role in game development.
