The Watcher, an Orwellian Surveillance Sim, Announced for PC
The Watcher is a surveillance simulator announced for PC by indie developer Yesterday’s Sandwich. Set in a totalitarian state, the game casts players as an unknown observer watching residents of an apartment building across the street in the strange city of Z, part of the authoritarian State of Nodia.
Gameplay centers on using various surveillance devices to spy on the building’s inhabitants. The title draws inspiration from psychological thriller games like “Don’t Feed the Monkeys” and “Orwell” in terms of narrative and mechanics, though developer Yesterday’s Sandwich emphasizes they have expanded upon these influences with their own direction for the project.
Built with Unreal Engine, The Watcher features detailed visuals and environmental storytelling that reinforce its creepy surveillance premise. The announcement included a debut trailer and initial screenshots showcasing the apartment building and surveillance interface. The game is currently in development with no release date announced, though it can already be wishlisted on Steam.
