5 Classic Anime That Deserve To Get Remakes ASAP
Polygon examines five classic anime series that deserve modern remakes, exploring a topic that divides devoted fans. The article acknowledges the deep nostalgic appeal of beloved foundational series like Naruto, Dragon Ball, and Pokémon, which served as gateways to anime for many viewers. It also discusses more mature classics including Neon Genesis Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop, which shaped viewers during formative periods of their lives.
The piece takes a nuanced stance on the remake question, recognizing that not every classic anime warrants a contemporary reimagining. Some beloved titles, such as Steins;Gate, remain remarkably compelling and well-crafted despite minor flaws, while others like Mob Psycho 100 already feel timeless and fresh despite being relatively recent. The author suggests that the decision to pursue a remake should depend on whether a series has significant storytelling or presentation issues that would benefit from modernization, versus continuing to remain engaging and relevant to contemporary audiences.
