Kingdom Hearts is getting its own anime series on Disney+ and Disney Channel
Disney announced a new Kingdom Hearts anime series at the D23 Entertainment Showcase, set to air on Disney Channel and stream on Disney+. The series, currently working under the title “Kingdom Hearts,” is being developed in partnership with series creator Tetsuya Nomura and the Square Enix creative team. Rather than adapting existing game narratives, the anime will tell an original story set within the Kingdom Hearts universe, featuring characters created exclusively for the series.
Nomura confirmed his involvement via social media, encouraging fans to “let their imagination run wild” regarding the show’s potential. While plot details remain undisclosed, the announcement indicates the series will expand the Kingdom Hearts lore with fresh content.
The anime announcement came alongside other Kingdom Hearts news, including the reveal of Kingdom Hearts 4 and a new Coco-inspired world within the upcoming game. Actor Benjamin Bratt, who voices Ernesto de la Cruz in Kingdom Hearts 4, announced the series on stage at D23. The project represents an expansion of the Kingdom Hearts franchise beyond video games into animated television, marking a significant step in Disney’s strategy to develop multimedia content from its gaming properties.
