Slay the Spire 2 updates are slowing down again, but don’t fear, it’s all in the name of more modes, an alternate Act 2, and a character with a bandaged foot
Slay the Spire 2 is entering another phase of development slowdown. After launching into early access in March, developer Mega Crit initially promised weekly updates before shifting to a bi-weekly cadence in May. Now, as detailed in the game’s August newsletter, the studio has announced a further reduction in update frequency.
Mega Crit explains that the bi-weekly update schedule has proven effective, allowing the team to methodically work through their feature and content roadmap while maintaining flexibility to experiment with new mechanics and additions. The deliberate pace enables the developers to be more dynamic in their approach to new content introductions.
Upcoming additions to the game include new game modes, an alternate Act 2 design, and a new playable character featuring a bandaged foot. These substantial content pieces suggest the developer is prioritizing depth and polish over rapid release cycles.
While the slowdown might concern some players, Mega Crit has characterized the change as temporary rather than permanent, leaving open the possibility that update velocity could accelerate once key development milestones are achieved. The approach reflects a broader trend in early access development where sustainable team pacing and content quality often outweigh the benefits of constant, incremental updates.
