Mahershala Ali’s ‘Blade’ Is Dead, But His Forgotten 4-Part Sci-Fi Masterpiece Is Free on Streaming

Marvel’s long-in-development Blade film starring Mahershala Ali has been officially scrapped, Ali confirmed last month. The Academy Award-winning actor, known for memorable villain roles in Luke Cage, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Invincible, will not be getting his MCU superhero moment. However, Ali’s earlier work in superhero media remains accessible: his breakout role came in the largely forgotten TV series The 4400, which premiered on CBS in 2004. In the sci-fi drama, Ali played Richard Tyler, a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot who disappeared during military service. The complete series is currently available to stream for free on Tubi, offering viewers a chance to see Ali’s early career work in the superhero genre, even as his anticipated Blade project has been abandoned.
