The Quake community simply cannot stop delivering, having just released a 22-map ‘Deathmatch Jam’ to celebrate the shooter’s 30th birthday
The Quake community continues to celebrate the shooter’s 30th anniversary with a new community-created content release. Q30 Deathmatch Jam, a collection of 22 new multiplayer arenas, has been released for the original Quake game, organized by veteran mappers Annihilazor and Infiniti.
This release represents the latest in a series of celebratory map jams throughout the year. The community has previously organized multiple events including two Quickie speedmapping jams that challenged creators to build maps under time constraints, a 1024 Jam where maps were limited to 1024 cubic units, and a Limits Jam that required mappers to adhere to the technical and design constraints of the original Quake campaign.
The new Deathmatch Jam maps showcase the diversity of Quake’s iconic interdimensional aesthetic, featuring gothic castles and varied environments designed specifically for competitive multiplayer gameplay. The community’s continued dedication to creating content for the 30-year-old shooter demonstrates the enduring appeal and modding ecosystem surrounding Quake.
The release highlights the active and creative community surrounding Quake, which continues to produce new experiences for the classic shooter decades after its original release. This grassroots celebration of the franchise showcases how legacy games with active communities can remain vibrant and engaging through fan-created content.
