This Switch Game That Reached 1 Million Players Is Closing Official Servers Soon
Official online servers for the Nintendo Switch version of Ark: Survival Evolved will shut down on August 31, 2026, marking the end of online multiplayer support for the dinosaur-survival game on the platform. The game achieved over one million players since its Switch launch in 2018, with the Ultimate Survivor Edition remaster developed by Grove Street Games contributing to the player base.
Developer Studio Wildcard announced the closure “with wistful hearts,” expressing gratitude to the community for their support throughout the game’s life on Switch. The shutdown represents a significant impact for online multiplayer players, as cooperative and competitive online play has been a core feature of Ark’s appeal.
However, the company is providing a measure of relief for affected players. Single-player modes will remain fully playable after the server shutdown, and unofficial private servers will continue to function, allowing players to maintain community experiences and continue their survival adventures outside the official infrastructure.
