Fortnite’s New Gaming Battle Pass Only Has One Gaming Collab
Fortnite is launching Chapter 7 Season 4, titled “Overdrive,” a retro gaming-themed season featuring collaborations with iconic video game franchises. The season begins Thursday.
Epic Games has teased numerous gaming crossovers through the season’s promotional materials and recent in-game live event, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Tetris, Kingdom Hearts, Persona, and Spyro. The lineup also includes creative, legally-distinct parodies inspired by other gaming legends.
However, reports indicate Sonic the Hedgehog appears to be the only confirmed gaming collaboration included in the Chapter 7 Season 4 battle pass at launch. Epic Games has a history of holding back surprise cosmetics, with previous seasons featuring secret skins revealed later in the season—such as a Simpsons-themed John Wick variant in the current season—suggesting additional collaborations may be unveiled as the season progresses.
The Overdrive season is particularly significant as it’s expected to be the final full-length season of Chapter 7. Epic Games is planning to conclude the chapter with a mini-season featuring major crossovers, similar to The Simpsons-focused season from the previous year.
The retro gaming theme resonates with Fortnite’s live-service model, which regularly incorporates pop culture and entertainment franchises to drive engagement and cosmetic sales. The variety of teased collaborations demonstrates Epic’s continued investment in securing licensing deals with major gaming properties to appeal to the battle royale’s diverse player base.
