Marvel Rivals players are messing with their config files ’to cancel games with no consequence’ before they get a loss

Players of Marvel Rivals have discovered an exploit allowing them to cancel ranked matches without receiving penalties for losses. The method involves editing the game’s config files during an active match. When players modify these files, Marvel Rivals’ anti-cheat system detects the tampering and automatically cancels the match. The exploiters then remove the altered config files, and reportedly face no consequences.

Streamer LytePk reported the exploit on social media, stating that players were “intentionally abusing the cheating detection system to cancel games with no consequence when they are losing.” LytePk claimed this had happened to them five times during a single streaming session.

The exploit undermines competitive integrity in Marvel Rivals’ ranked mode by allowing players to escape rank point losses during unfavorable matches. Unlike legitimate disconnections, which typically incur penalties, this method leaves exploiting players unpunished. The issue represents a vulnerability where the game’s anti-cheat system’s own detection mechanism is weaponized against its intended purpose.

As of the reports, NetEase Games had not publicly announced fixes or confirmed whether it was taking action against players using the exploit. The discovery highlights the ongoing challenges live-service games face in maintaining competitive fairness and preventing determined cheaters from circumventing punishment systems.
