PUBG Mobile Light is a lower-footprint version of the battle royale hit
Tencent and Krafton have unveiled PUBG Mobile Light, a streamlined version of their battle royale game designed to reduce storage and device requirements for players. Pre-registration for the title opens on August 25, with a full public launch planned for later in 2026.
The key innovation behind PUBG Mobile Light is its dramatically reduced initial download footprint—approximately 1GB on Android and under 2GB on iOS. Rather than bundling all content upfront, the game employs a modular system where additional content can be downloaded separately according to player preference. This approach aims to lower the barrier to entry for players with limited storage space or who use less powerful devices.
Despite the reduced footprint, PUBG Mobile Light maintains feature parity with the main PUBG Mobile experience. The core battle royale map, supplies, and combat mechanics are designed to match the standard version, ensuring players experience the same core gameplay. Players can transfer their existing PUBG Mobile accounts, cosmetic items, and friend lists directly to the new version, eliminating the need to start from scratch.
The game operates as a separate application running alongside the standard PUBG Mobile rather than replacing it. Both versions will receive updates in synchronization, maintaining gameplay consistency and balance across both titles. This dual-app approach allows players to choose between the full-featured version or the lighter alternative based on their device capabilities and preferences.
The move reflects a broader industry trend of creating optimized versions of popular titles to reach players in emerging markets and those with budget or mid-range devices. By addressing storage constraints without sacrificing core gameplay, Krafton aims to expand PUBG Mobile’s addressable audience significantly.
