10 tips from a World of Warcraft art lead for getting started creating amazing houses in WoW

World of Warcraft’s recent patch 12.1, The Curse of Ula’tek, has expanded the game’s player housing feature with significant new content and functionality. The update introduced a large collection of new housing decorations and design features, along with an innovative blueprint system.

The blueprint system allows players to save complete room interiors and exteriors as templates that other players can copy into their own housing spaces. This feature is designed to help novice decorators learn from and replicate designs created by more experienced player designers, reducing the intimidation factor for those new to housing customization.

Jay Huang, a Blizzard principal artist and lead designer, leads the player housing initiative. Previously, Huang created the decorative props that populate World of Warcraft’s environments. He has now transitioned to designing the systems that enable players to create similar works themselves.

Recognizing that player housing has become a serious creative pursuit in the community, Huang has provided a series of tips for players interested in becoming house designers. These guidelines are intended to help beginners overcome initial hesitation and start creating their own in-game residences.
