Army Unit Gives Soldiers 4-Day Pass To Play GTA 6 If They Re-Enlist

The US Army’s 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia is offering active-duty soldiers a four-day pass to play Grand Theft Auto 6 as an incentive to re-enlist for at least two additional years. Soldiers who sign re-enlistment contracts between August 1 and November 14 will receive time off coinciding with GTA 6’s November 19 launch date.

The program, limited to soldiers in the 9th Brigade Engineering Battalion, has already attracted approximately 20 re-enlistees. According to Lt. Col. Angel Tomko, an Army spokesperson, the initiative was designed to “have a unique incentives program that connects to what soldiers are interested in” and to “get soldiers excited to reenlist.” The command team worked with career counselors to develop an incentive aligned with soldiers’ personal interests.

This unconventional recruitment strategy reflects how military leadership is evolving its approach to retention by leveraging popular culture. Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated games in recent years, generating widespread enthusiasm across the gaming community and beyond. By tying a cultural moment to re-enlistment benefits, the Army has created an incentive that directly resonates with younger service members.

The approach demonstrates military recognition that gaming culture significantly influences soldiers’ lives and leisure interests. Rather than relying solely on traditional bonus structures or benefits, the Fort Stewart unit identified a shared passion point and created a targeted incentive addressing it. This strategy aims to strengthen retention while acknowledging the values and interests of modern military personnel.
