An updated PS5 DualSense Edge controller is apparently coming next year, but you probably shouldn’t get get too excited
Sony’s DualSense Edge wireless controller for PlayStation 5 and PC is receiving an updated model, based on FCC filings discovered by ResetEra. The new controller carries the model number CFI-ZCP2, a minor revision from the current CFI-ZCP1.
Rather than a major design overhaul, the update is expected to focus on improving access to the controller’s rechargeable lithium-ion battery, allowing users to replace it more easily. This modification would likely bring the controller into compliance with the European Union’s Right to Repair regulations, which mandate that manufacturers make device components more accessible for consumer maintenance and replacement.
The DualSense Edge, priced at $200 in the US and £200 in the UK, is Sony’s premium controller offering for PlayStation 5 users seeking enhanced customization. Battery replaceability extends the controller’s lifespan and addresses a key limitation of rechargeable wireless controllers—battery degradation over time. Rather than discarding an aging controller, users could simply replace the battery module.
The FCC filing suggests the updated model may arrive in 2027, though Sony has not officially announced the revision or confirmed additional features. Beyond battery accessibility improvements, the changes appear minimal.
