GTA 6 Has Already Made $400 Million+ From Preorders, Apparently
According to analytics firm Sensor Tower’s sales tracker, Grand Theft Auto 6 has generated approximately $429 million in revenue through preorders as of August 18, based on an estimated 4.38 million copies sold. The breakdown by platform shows 77% of preorders for PlayStation 5 with the remaining 23% for Xbox Series X|S.
Preorders for the highly anticipated title began on June 25, with two price tiers available: the standard edition at $80 and the Ultimate Edition at $100. While Sensor Tower’s figures are not officially confirmed by Rockstar Games or parent company Take-Two Interactive, the numbers align with industry expectations given the massive cultural anticipation surrounding the game’s release.
Take-Two has publicly stated that GTA 6’s preorder numbers represent an unprecedented level of demand for a video game, though the company has chosen not to disclose official sales figures. This third-party data suggests the game is on track to become one of the most commercially successful entertainment launches ever.
The strong preorder performance underscores GTA 6’s position as a tentpole release for both PlayStation and Xbox, with the PlayStation 5’s dominance in preorders reflecting the platform’s larger installed user base.
