Triple-A vets and accessibility experts launch new game dev co-op: Raze and Rebuild Studio

A new worker-owned game developer cooperative has launched with a focus on accessibility and bringing experienced industry veterans together in response to ongoing layoffs and studio closures. Raze and Rebuild Studio, described by its founders as “rising from the ashes of the games industry,” was created by former triple-A developers and accessibility specialists including Tanya DePass (former Monolith Productions writer), accessibility expert Laura Kate Dale, business development and accessibility consultant Tarja Porkka-Kontturi, and Global Game Jam co-founder Ian Schreiber.

The cooperative model represents a growing trend among veteran developers seeking alternatives to traditional studio structures following years of mass layoffs and closures that have displaced thousands of industry workers. Notably, Raze and Rebuild launched without any initial external funding, suggesting a bootstrapped approach to operations.

The studio’s emphasis on accessibility expertise among its founding members signals an intentional focus on inclusive game development practices—a commitment reflected in the backgrounds of its co-founders, several of whom have dedicated significant portions of their careers to advancing accessibility in gaming.
