Immersive sim Retrospace, aka ’70s System Shock, gets an October release date plus a trailer full of funky guns and sentient black holes
RetroSpace, a retro-futuristic immersive sim developed by The Wild Gentlemen and published by Kwalee, will launch on October 1st, 2026. The game draws inspiration from the System Shock series but sets the action in a 1970s aesthetic, complete with “discopunk” styling and unconventional weaponry.
Players take on the role of a 3D-printed clone janitor aboard the space station Aurora, which has been catastrophically swallowed by a sentient black hole. Stranded on the station, players must survive using a combination of stealth, combat, and creative problem-solving.
Gameplay involves confronting mutant flora and fauna, as well as the station’s automated security systems. The game features metroidvania-style level design centered around a main hub area that connects to explorable zones filled with shortcuts and secret passages, encouraging both discovery and player agency in tackling objectives.
RetroSpace positions itself as an immersive sim in the tradition of games like System Shock and Prey, emphasizing player freedom and multiple approaches to challenges. The “discopunk” aesthetic and funky weapon designs suggest a stylized, humorous tone compared to the darker sci-fi horror of its genre inspirations.
