Dave Bautista Officially Cast as Kratos in God of War Show After Ryan Hurst Drops Out Due to Injury
Dave Bautista has officially been cast as Kratos in Prime Video’s upcoming live-action adaptation of God of War, replacing original casting choice Ryan Hurst. Hurst was forced to exit the project after suffering a bicep tear while performing a stunt on set in late June. The injury required surgery and an extended recovery period that would have significantly delayed production.
Rather than wait for Hurst’s recovery, Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television decided to recast the role. Production had already been underway in Vancouver, British Columbia for months, with several episodes already completed. Scenes featuring Hurst will need to be reshot with Bautista when production resumes in the coming weeks.
Bautista, a 57-year-old former WWE World Heavyweight Champion best known for his role as Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, brings considerable action experience to the role. His casting marks a significant production shift for the ambitious live-action series. Amazon has already greenlit a second season, with both seasons expected to shoot back-to-back following the casting change and production resumption.
