15 minutes of Black Myth: Zhong Kui gameplay footage provide our first proper look at Wukong’s successor yet

Game Science has released 15 minutes of gameplay footage for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the upcoming sequel to the commercially successful Black Myth: Wukong. The new footage provides the first detailed look at the game’s protagonist, a disheveled swordsman inspired by the Chinese mythological deity Zhong Kui, as well as the combat system and enemies players will face.

The gameplay reveals a combat-focused action RPG rooted in ancient Chinese mythology and folklore, featuring enemies such as demon-inspired creatures and unusual foes like “oyster men.” The combat system emphasizes rolling, parrying, and precise swordplay, with a Souls-like difficulty model. A notable shift from the original Black Myth: Wukong, which focused heavily on boss encounters, is the apparent increase in regular enemy encounters throughout the world, suggesting a more densely populated experience.

The footage showcases impressive visual fidelity despite being from a work-in-progress build, with cinematics and brief story elements woven throughout. The protagonist is depicted engaging in diverse activities beyond combat, including crafting, fishing, camping, and other environmental interactions. The trailer has been positively received by the gaming community, with viewers praising the confident combat animations and creative enemy designs.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui was first teased at Gamescom 2025 before this extended gameplay reveal. Game Science’s original Black Myth: Wukong, released in August 2024, achieved major critical and commercial success, establishing strong expectations for its successor.
