A Kingdom Hearts Movie? It’s Not Ruled Out, Disney Exec Says

Kingdom Hearts, one of Disney’s gaming franchises to surpass $1 billion in lifetime sales, may be heading to the big screen. The prospect of a Kingdom Hearts movie was raised with Jared Bush, chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, who responded with cautious optimism without confirming specific plans.

“Nothing is impossible,” Bush said when asked about adapting the beloved Square Enix-Disney collaboration into a feature film. He emphasized that Disney Animation Studios has “a very bright future of new projects coming out” and is exploring “different ways of putting material out into the world.”

The inquiry comes as Disney prepares to launch a Kingdom Hearts television series on Disney+, expanding the franchise beyond gaming into streaming entertainment. This reflects the studio’s broader strategy of adapting gaming properties across multiple media formats.

Bush, who has led the studio’s creative direction since 2024, expressed enthusiasm for hearing fan passion regarding potential projects. Kingdom Hearts stands among Disney’s most commercially successful gaming franchises, joining eight others in achieving billion-dollar sales milestones. The long-running collaboration between Disney and Square Enix has cultivated a dedicated fanbase since its 2002 debut.
