Makers Fund expands game industry footprint through $250 million investment round
Makers Fund, a venture capital firm specializing in interactive entertainment, has closed its fourth investment round, securing $250 million and bringing its total assets under management to $1.5 billion. Founded in 2016, the firm has established itself as a significant backer of game developers and interactive entertainment startups.
The fund’s portfolio includes notable investments in studios such as Bossa Studios, AudioMob, Redhill Games, Dream Games, and TinyBuild. Makers Fund’s early investment in Turkish mobile developer Dream Games proved particularly successful, with the company valued at nearly $5 billion following a subsequent strategic investment from venture firm CVC.
Makers Fund has demonstrated strong returns on its investments, returning 3.6 times its invested capital to date. The firm’s initial round raised $180 million in 2016, followed by a record $500 million round in 2022. Fund IV continues this trajectory while expanding the firm’s investment focus beyond traditional game development into consumer applications, entertainment platforms, and creation tools. According to general partner Jay Chi, the firm’s strategy is built on the foundational belief that “creators are the constant, even as the landscape shifts around them.”
