The latest Windows 11 update is borking some multiplayer games, but Arc Raiders’ developer has a quick workaround

A Windows 11 update released on or after August 11 (KB5121003) is causing crashes and performance issues in some multiplayer games. The update affects Windows 11 builds 25H2 and 24H2 (OS builds 26200.9168 and 26100.9168), though Microsoft reports the issue currently affects only a limited number of games.

Affected users are experiencing several troubling symptoms: game applications becoming unresponsive, games closing without warning, EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION errors, and unexpected device restarts. Three games have been confirmed as affected by the issue: Arc Raiders, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and The Finals.

Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and states it is investigating the root cause. In response, Arc Raiders’ developer has provided a quick workaround to get the game running again for affected users. As an alternative solution, users can roll back to a previous Windows 11 version released before August 11 to restore game stability while waiting for an official fix from Microsoft. Microsoft is encouraging affected users to submit feedback through the Feedback Hub to help identify the scope of the problem and assist in developing a comprehensive solution.
