Microsoft Surface and other Windows on Arm PCs can’t use Outlook or Teams right now

A Windows 11 update has broken Microsoft Teams and Outlook on Windows on Arm devices, rendering both applications unusable for affected users. The issue began following the rollout of update KB5121003 in mid-August, with both Teams and Outlook crashing immediately upon launch on affected machines.

The problem particularly impacts devices like the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7, which run Windows 11 on Arm architecture. Users report that the applications close almost immediately after being opened, with the new Outlook version specifically affected. This prevents users from accessing email and participating in video calls and meetings.

Brian Stringfellow brought attention to the issue through a Microsoft Learn report, where multiple users confirmed experiencing similar problems. The scope of affected devices includes Surface Laptop models and other Windows on Arm PCs—a category Microsoft has been promoting as the future direction for Windows computing.

This represents a significant issue for Microsoft’s push toward Arm-based Windows devices, as it leaves a core productivity software suite non-functional on these systems. The timing is particularly problematic given Microsoft’s recent emphasis on positioning Windows on Arm as a viable computing platform.
