Following rumoured talks, Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista has reportedly now signed as Kratos in Amazon’s God of War

Dave Bautista has been confirmed to play Kratos in Amazon’s God of War live-action series, replacing original actor Ryan Hurst who suffered a bicep tear during filming that required surgery. The casting news came after weeks of speculation following Hurst’s injury announcement earlier this month. Bautista, best known for playing Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films and for his career as a WWE performer, brings considerable physical presence to the iconic video game character.

The transition occurs after Hurst had undergone substantial physical preparation for the role, gaining approximately 40 pounds of muscle to embody the stoic god-killer Kratos. With Bautista taking over, production can resume on the series, which has received a two-season order from Amazon and Sony. Both seasons are planned to be shot back-to-back, allowing the production to maintain momentum on the high-profile adaptation.

Bautista’s casting brings significant name recognition to the project, with his action hero credentials and notable physical build making him well-suited to portray the brutal protagonist. The former professional wrestler has demonstrated range in dramatic roles beyond pure action work, suggesting potential to explore the character’s complex emotional journey throughout the series.
