Miyazaki says FromSoftware obviously isn’t done with singleplayer games despite the combo of Elden Ring: Nightreign and The Duskbloods

FromSoftware, the storied developer behind Dark Souls and Elden Ring, has recently achieved success with multiplayer-focused titles including Elden Ring: Nightreign and the upcoming The Duskbloods. These releases have sparked speculation about whether the studio might be shifting toward live-service development, potentially moving away from its traditional singleplayer focus.

President Hidetaka Miyazaki has addressed these concerns, clarifying that FromSoftware remains committed to singleplayer experiences and has not abandoned this core aspect of its identity. According to Miyazaki, the studio’s recent multiplayer ventures simply resulted from circumstances aligning favorably, rather than a deliberate strategic pivot away from singleplayer games. “This is just something that happened to work out the way it did,” he stated, suggesting the projects developed organically.

The Duskbloods, described as shaping up well, will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Meanwhile, Elden Ring: Nightreign has proven commercially successful, demonstrating FromSoftware’s capability in the multiplayer space.

Miyazaki’s statement should reassure fans concerned about the studio potentially prioritizing live-service games over traditional singleplayer experiences. The comments indicate that FromSoftware’s future development strategy will likely continue balancing substantial singleplayer projects alongside its expanding multiplayer offerings.
