Grand Theft Auto 6 Leaks Are Fueling A Crypto Pump-And-Dump Scheme

Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay videos leaked this week, but the leaks appear to be part of a cryptocurrency scheme designed to profit from the attention. A person or group calling themselves “CyberLeek” released five GTA 6 gameplay videos and a map image, each watermarked with promotion for a meme coin of the same name hosted on the Solana blockchain.

The CYBERLEEK coin launched on August 16, just two days before the first leak surfaced. As viewers sought out the cryptocurrency platform mentioned in the leaked videos, the coin’s price skyrocketed dramatically within 24 hours. The leaker further incentivized engagement by requiring users to send the meme coin to vote on which gameplay footage would be leaked next.

The scheme caught the attention of the gaming community when Vice Cit, a member of GTAForums, conducted a digital forensics investigation and published findings exposing the apparent pump-and-dump operation. The analysis revealed concerning motives behind the leaking rampage, suggesting the primary goal was financial gain through the cryptocurrency scheme rather than exposing information about the game itself.

Meanwhile, Rockstar Games has been actively attempting to remove the leaked content from the internet, though the leaker has maintained multiple backup accounts allowing new leaks to surface continuously. The incident highlights the intersection of gaming leaks, cryptocurrency schemes, and social media virality.
