Gorilla Grodd and Jimmy Olsen Show Gets Official Title and Cast List as DC Promises True-Crime Documentary With a Comedic Spin

DC Studios has officially announced a new comedy series coming to HBO Max titled “The People v. Gorilla Grodd,” which has received a straight-to-series order for eight half-hour episodes.

The announcement came from DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn via social media. The show will be a mockumentary-style comedy with a true-crime documentary structure, drawing comparisons to acclaimed series like “The Office,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “American Vandal.”

The series follows Jimmy Olsen, reporter for the Daily Planet, as he investigates a murder case centered on Gorilla Grodd, a psychic gorilla accused of patricide. The cast includes Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Jimmy Tatro as the voice of Gorilla Grodd.

“The People v. Gorilla Grodd” represents another expansion of the DC Universe following James Gunn’s reboot of the DCU. It arrives alongside 2025’s “Superman,” last year’s “Supergirl,” and the upcoming 2027 sequel “Man of Tomorrow.”

The half-hour comedy format and mockumentary style position the show as a comedic take on the DC Universe’s supporting characters and mythology, offering a fresh angle for exploring the intersection of superhero conflict and investigative journalism within the DC Universe.
