Pokémon Fans Found a Way to Bring Rare Event Pokémon to FireRed and LeafGreen

A fan group called MercuryEnigma has developed a method to create and distribute custom Pokémon and items to Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, enabling players to participate in fan-made events within the Gen 1 remakes. The group demonstrated the technique in a published video, sparking community interest in replicating the process.

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen released on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in February 2026, drawing both veteran players seeking nostalgia and newcomers experiencing the Kanto region for the first time. However, as players caught Pokémon and pursued Pokédex completion, they encountered a significant limitation: caught Pokémon remained trapped within these games with no transfer mechanism, unable to be moved elsewhere.

MercuryEnigma’s breakthrough addresses this concern by allowing custom events to be created and shared directly with the remakes. This capability could significantly extend player engagement and the games’ longevity through community-generated content. The fan group’s public sharing of their discovery reflects the broader community’s collaborative approach to game preservation and enhancement.

The development underscores the Pokémon community’s ongoing dedication to maintaining and expanding functionality in classic titles, particularly as official solutions remain unavailable.
