Modern Warfare 4 beta’s first update is live, adding a new map, mode, and toned-down footsteps
Infinity Ward has released the first update to the Modern Warfare 4 beta, responding to player feedback gathered during the beta’s opening day. The update addresses several key balance concerns raised by the community.
The primary focus of the patch was footstep audio, which players found too prominent. In response, Infinity Ward reduced both the volume and audible range of enemy footstep and gear sounds, making audio less of a dominant factor in gameplay awareness.
The patch also adjusted time-to-kill values on several weapons, specifically nerfing two weapons: the ISO Nightshade SMG and the Oris 8.6 marksman rifle. Both weapons received reductions to their damage ranges and headshot multipliers, decreasing their overall lethality.
Infinity Ward’s patch notes indicate a strong commitment to responsive game design, directly incorporating community feedback. The development team acknowledged player concerns and explained how the updates address them, while also encouraging players to continue sharing feedback to help guide future adjustments.
The studio signaled that these changes represent only the initial wave of adjustments, with additional balance modifications expected as the beta continues. This iterative approach to development, using live player feedback to refine the game during testing, is intended to ensure the final release meets player expectations for balance and gameplay feel.
