The 10 Best SNES Games to Play on Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo Switch Online’s Nintendo Classics service offers 77 SNES titles to subscribers, providing significant access to one of gaming’s most celebrated libraries. However, the service notably lacks many beloved third-party games from the era, including Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6, and Street Fighter 2 Turbo—absences that reflect licensing and rights complications common in digital game preservation efforts.
Despite these gaps, the available selection emphasizes Nintendo’s exceptional first-party output during the SNES generation. The article highlights how this period represented a creative golden age for the company, with legendary designer teams led by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka producing an unprecedented string of acclaimed titles. The SNES era marks what many consider one of the finest sustained runs by any game developer, as the company transitioned from the innovation that defined the NES to the groundbreaking leap into 3D gaming that would come with the Nintendo 64.
Nintendo Switch Online continues to position the SNES library as a key value proposition for subscribers, offering a curated selection of games that showcase the company’s design prowess during a particularly prolific era of video game history.
