Double Fine Revives Amnesia Fortnight After XBOX Split

Double Fine Productions is reviving its Amnesia Fortnight initiative on August 31, launching a live game jam that allows Kickstarter backers to vote on four prototype selections. This marks one of the studio’s first major steps toward revitalization following its recent separation from Xbox.

The announcement comes after a turbulent period for the studio. In early July, Double Fine announced it would regain its independence following negotiations with Xbox and subsequently underwent a round of layoffs. Tim Schafer confirmed that the studio now owns publishing rights to “all” of its games as part of the separation.

Amnesia Fortnight invites community participation through crowdfunding, with Kickstarter backers voting to help determine which game prototype moves forward as the studio’s next release. This combines rapid prototype development with community engagement, allowing fans to influence Double Fine’s creative direction during a critical period for the studio.
