EverQuest Legends dev says ‘I’m sure we would’ add new classes, races ‘in the longer-term vision of the game’
EverQuest Legends, a new ARPG spinoff that reimagines the classic early-2000s MMORPG with updated mechanics including multiclassing, is being developed with ambitious long-term plans. During a recent Twitch stream, developers from Daybreak Games and Game Jawn discussed potential future content additions, including entirely new classes and races not present in the original EverQuest.
While executive producer David Youssefi acknowledged that adding a new class by the upcoming Kunark expansion is unlikely due to time constraints, he made clear that the development team hasn’t ruled out such additions for later post-launch content phases. This suggests the developers are committed to meaningful expansions that go beyond simple cosmetics, potentially introducing entirely new gameplay possibilities beyond what players experienced in the original EverQuest.
The approach reflects a longer-term vision for the live-service game that aims to keep the experience fresh while respecting the original game’s legacy. EverQuest Legends positions itself as an alternative to straight remakes or remasters, instead creating a new ARPG experience that remixes the foundational elements of EverQuest’s class-based progression system while introducing modern features like multiclassing mechanics.
The mention of new races and classes demonstrates that despite the game being rooted in classic EverQuest content, the development team intends to evolve the offering beyond what was available in the original 1999 title. This aligns with modern live-service game development philosophy, where ongoing content updates are essential for player retention.
