Ori Director Says Ori 3 Rumors Are ‘Nonsense’

Speculation has swirled around a potential new Ori game following industry insider reports, but Moon Studios director Thomas Mahler has firmly denied the rumors, calling reports of an Ori 3 in development “nonsense.”

The speculation originated from Reset Era forums, where users suggested that a team at Saber Interactive was developing a new entry in the series. Industry insiders including Nate the Hate and Windows Central’s Jez Corden subsequently fueled the rumors, teasing Xbox announcements scheduled for Gamescom or a potential Xbox Developer Direct later this year. Corden specifically mentioned a “pretty big surprise” and “probably very unexpected sequel” among Xbox’s planned reveals, leading many to assume Ori 3 was in development.

However, Mahler responded by stating he had heard nothing about Microsoft reviving the Ori franchise. In a significant revelation, the Moon Studios CEO also disclosed that his studio has been in discussions with Microsoft about acquiring the Ori IP outright, rather than continuing to develop games in the series under Microsoft’s ownership.

The denial comes as a blow to fans hoping for a new entry in the beloved platformer series. Ori and the Blind Forest and its sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, both developed by Moon Studios, were praised for their artistic presentation and challenging gameplay. If Moon Studios successfully acquires the IP, it could reshape the future of the franchise, potentially giving the studio greater creative control over any future projects.
