Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Getting A Mexico Expansion Soon, But Not From Rockstar

Red Dead Redemption 2 is receiving a significant Mexico expansion from the modding community, nearly seven years after the game’s 2018 release. Developed by modder Rixus724, the mod titled “Nuevo Paraiso–The Forgotten Frontier” is set to release on September 16th and represents one of the most ambitious fan-made expansions for the western title.

The mod restores and recreates Mexican locations from the original Red Dead Redemption, filling a notable gap in Red Dead Redemption 2’s map that includes the predecessor’s states of New Austin and West Elizabeth but omits Mexico entirely. Beyond recreating existing geography, the expansion adds new settlements, gang hideouts, treasure hunts, minigames, bounty-hunter missions, and random encounters to expand gameplay opportunities.

A notable feature of Nuevo Paraiso is its use of Sadie Adler, a prominent character from Red Dead Redemption 2, as the expansion’s protagonist. In the base game, Adler mentions moving to South America, providing narrative continuity with the mod’s direction. This choice helps bridge the gap between RDR2’s story and the events of the original Red Dead Redemption.

Modders have been attempting to add Mexico to Red Dead Redemption 2 since its release, with previous efforts showing incremental progress. The new mod from Rixus724 appears to be the most polished and feature-complete iteration to date, delivering the story expansion that developer Rockstar Games never provided.
