Review: Starsand Island (Switch 2) – Perfectly Pleasant Yet Imperfect Life Sim

Chinese developer Seed Sparkle Lab’s cosy farming and life simulation game Starsand Island has launched on Nintendo Switch 2 and other consoles following its Early Access debut in February 2026. The game enters an increasingly crowded genre of relaxing farm sims, offering players the familiar satisfaction of tending land, raising animals, and accumulating wealth within a pleasant core gameplay loop.

However, the console release is significantly hampered by technical problems. Despite reviewers describing the fundamental gameplay as “perfectly pleasant,” the experience is substantially impacted by bugs and performance issues that undermine the overall experience. The game’s transition from Early Access to full console release appears to have retained these stability concerns rather than addressing them.

Starsand Island competes within a saturated market of cosy life simulations. While the game delivers on the core satisfaction that players seek from farming simulations, the technical polish necessary for a smooth console experience remains incomplete, suggesting that further optimization and bug fixes are needed before the game can fully deliver on its relaxing premise.
