1666: Amsterdam’s early access is live now but there’s still plenty that needs ironing out before I’d pay $30 for it

1666: Amsterdam, developed by Panache Digital Games, has officially launched in early access following over a decade of development. The game was revealed at Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2026, marking a significant milestone for the long-gestated project.

The supernatural narrative centers on two main characters: Noa Brooklyn, a witch, and Aaron, a man cursed to inhabit a cat’s body. Players navigate between modern-day and 17th century Amsterdam, embarking on a mission to confront and defeat powerful demonic entities known as the Originals who have grown too powerful and greedy.

Despite reaching early access, the game still requires considerable refinement before its full commercial launch at the $30 price point. The reviewer indicates that significant work remains before the title reaches a release-ready state, though the premise and characters have generated sufficient interest to warrant the early access phase.
