RollerCoaster Tycoon Is Back, And This Time It Has Bubsy

Atari has announced RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks, a new entry in the long-dormant theme park management series, developed by Springloaded, the studio behind the well-received Let’s Build a Zoo. The game will launch on Steam Early Access, allowing players to help shape the title’s development alongside the studio.

The announcement comes over a decade after RollerCoaster Tycoon World’s 2016 release, which was widely panned by critics and players alike. That misstep—compounded by Atari’s decision to launch it one day before competitor Planet Coaster’s release—effectively ended the franchise’s presence in gaming. Atari has stewarded the RollerCoaster Tycoon intellectual property since the Infogrames era in the early 2000s but has struggled to deliver a compelling new entry since the classic original trilogy.

With Wonderworks, Atari and Springloaded are betting on community involvement and iterative development to rebuild trust in the franchise. The publisher has emphasized its commitment to hearing player feedback on what works, what’s missing, and what fans want to see in their ideal RollerCoaster Tycoon experience. The title was announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live’s pre-show event.
