Backrooms Is Officially Coming to HBO Max in September
The Backrooms, a horror film directed by 21-year-old Kane Parsons, will premiere on HBO Max on September 25, with a debut on HBO linear channels the following day at 8pm ET. The streaming release comes nearly four months after the movie’s theatrical debut, where it became a major commercial success. Backrooms grossed over $80 million in its opening weekend alone and has become A24’s highest-grossing film of all time, significantly outperforming the studio’s previous record holder. The movie’s rapid transition from theatrical release to streaming reflects both its strong box office performance and the competitive streaming landscape, where major studios are eager to capitalize on successful theatrical releases by bringing content to their platforms quickly to drive subscriber engagement.
