Discord is yet to be served Take-Two’s GTA 6 leak subpoena, which is set to demand broad access to user data
Take-Two Interactive, parent company of Rockstar Games, has filed subpoenas against Discord and Microsoft to identify those responsible for leaking Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay footage. The leaker, known as “Cyberleek,” has been releasing development build footage online, causing significant concern for the publisher.
While a federal judge granted Take-Two’s request for the subpoenas, Discord states it has not yet been formally served. Discord’s marketing director Ryan K. Rigney confirmed the platform will “evaluate the validity and scope before responding” if and when the subpoena is received.
The subpoenas seek broad user data including IP addresses and phone numbers. The expansive scope has raised privacy concerns, as the requests could potentially affect hundreds of thousands of Discord users across servers where leaks circulated, rather than targeting only those directly involved. Microsoft, also subpoenaed, has signaled willingness to cooperate with Take-Two’s investigation.
Discord’s measured approach contrasts with Microsoft’s cooperation, suggesting the platform may challenge aspects of the subpoena if deemed excessive or in violation of user privacy protections. Take-Two’s legal action underscores the company’s determination to pursue those responsible for the unauthorized release of substantial game code and footage.
