Irish browser games start-up Entity raises $5M in funding for ‘console-quality games for the ’new web’ era’
Dublin-based startup Entity has secured $5 million (€5 million) in seed funding to develop a browser-based gaming platform designed to deliver console-quality games without requiring downloads or installations. The platform launches early 2027 with a mix of existing PC and console titles alongside original IP.
Entity is co-founded by veterans of DIGIT Game Studios—Rich Barnwell, Kev Bergin, Dave McGovern, Fergus Duggan, and Artur Stawiarski—who previously developed Star Trek Fleet Command, a massively successful mobile title acquired by Scopely in 2019 that generated $50 million in revenue within its first few months.
The funding round was led by venture capital firms ACT, Delta Partners, and Elkstone, alongside government-funded Enterprise Ireland and several angel investors, reflecting confidence in the team’s track record and the platform’s vision.
Entity’s platform leverages WebGPU and WebAssembly technologies to enable instant access to games through a single link, positioning itself as an alternative to both expensive console ecosystems and cloud gaming services. Unlike cloud gaming, the architecture eliminates streaming latency by processing content locally, promising responsive gameplay comparable to traditional console experiences.
The startup represents a fresh effort to reimagine browser gaming for what Entity terms the “new web era,” capitalizing on modern web standards and the proven ability of its founding team to create commercially successful gaming products.
