Mass Effect-like Exodus gets a release date, while showcasing an octopus companion in a mech suit

Archetype Entertainment has announced that its sci-fi RPG Exodus will launch on April 7, 2027, across PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The release date was revealed during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live ceremony through a cinematic gameplay trailer showcasing new characters and gameplay.

Exodus is a Mass Effect-inspired third-person action-RPG developed by former BioWare staff. Set 40,000 years in the future, the game follows humanity’s exodus from a dying Earth to habitable star systems across the galaxy. The narrative features party-based companions and branching story paths characteristic of the acclaimed Mass Effect franchise.

The latest trailer introduced Salt, a party companion and long-range sniper specialist. Salt is an “Awakened”—a hyper-intelligent animal species within the game’s universe capable of human communication. She is notably an octopus who pilots a mech suit and can deploy an ink smokescreen for tactical cover in combat.

The announcement addresses the long gap since the last mainline Mass Effect release, positioning Exodus as a spiritual successor to fill the void in space-faring RPGs. The game promises compelling sci-fi worldbuilding and character-driven storytelling rooted in complex narrative branching.
