Wait, Is Mega Man: Dual Override Just Mega Man X Now?
Capcom has unveiled new gameplay footage for Mega Man: Dual Override, the upcoming action platformer launching in 2027 across PlayStation 4/5 and Nintendo Switch/Switch 2.
The first substantial gameplay trailer, revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, showcases a modernized take on the classic Mega Man formula by incorporating mechanics from the Mega Man X series. The game features new movement abilities including dash, hover, and phase-through-enemy capabilities that traditionally distinguished MMX’s faster-paced gameplay from the original Mega Man’s slower platforming.
The trailer introduces Twinkle Girl, one of the game’s robot master bosses, and demonstrates the core platforming action—jumping, sliding, and shooting—alongside new costume options. Visual enhancements include stylized glowing armor effects that signify character upgrades and special equipment.
A notable addition is the return of Proto Man as a companion character joining Mega Man throughout the adventure, suggesting a collaborative gameplay structure. The inclusion of these MMX-inspired mechanics, combined with retro-inspired design, positions the game as an attempt to bridge the classic and X series fanbases by blending both gameplay styles into a single experience.
